Rosa Tomazic, founder of Save the Girlz
I started Save The Girlz to help a local and long-time friend battling third-stage breast cancer. After hearing her mom’s heart speak to me about the enduring and painful treatments she was facing, I put myself in her shoes for just a moment and realized that I could not wear her shoes. I have not known what it is to lose all my hair or to see a reflection of me that only slightly resembles the person I remember, the same soul whom continues to live inside an ever-changing physical identity. Many of us have not been faced with the decision to have to lose a part of our body, of our identity as a woman, all the while knowing that our children still need us, need mom…This is the story of my friend Lissa, but it is also the story of millions of women, young girls and families out there battling diseases. It could be my story, my mom’s, my daughters…In realizing this I knew that it was not enough just to care, but to make a difference in any way possible.
What was just to be a simple t-shirt and tank-top fundraiser took on a life of its own.
A community of family, friends and good Samaritans responded and over 260 shirts were sold in a matter of two weeks. Thousands of dollars later this family is able to defray the costs of expenses accrued over this last year of struggles. Many involved had a renewed sense of faith in humankind. One small idea has had an eventful impact.
It is through this amazing journey that my solo mission has grown into becoming Save the Girlz. Marianne Jones, whose inspiration is her friend's 8-year old daughter, Timmaree, has stepped up to help form Save the Girlz. She has the same heart and is in this to make a difference in the lives of others.
We have made a commitment to continue to raise funds by offering fashion-forward tops that symbolize the strength and courage of girls and women. This is all possible by the support of both private and community fundraisers as well as local businesses and retailers that support our cause. Most importantly, it is possible by the support of people just like you that want to give for the sake of knowing that it makes a difference, however big or small, to someone that is a mom, a daughter, your best friend…
With the money raised, we will offer scholarships and financial help to women, girls and families facing battles; our creed is that the battle is not entered alone.
WE ARE WOMEN… WE ARE WARRIORS… UNITED WE STAND!
Changing the fate of women and families one step at a time…will you walk the road with us?
